When: June 21-23, 2013
Where: Custer, WI
We hear much about sustainability, green living, clean energy and taking good care of mother earth.
When we opened the Apple Tree Lane Bed & Breakfast 6 years ago, it was important for us to increase our knowledge about sustainable practices. In addition to working on earning our certification from Travel Green Wisconsin, we found out about the education opportunities through MREA (Midwest Renewable Energy Association) that has an Energy Fair each year in nearby Custer, WI. This is no small gathering.
This event draws about 20,000 people from all over the country and is the largest running energy education event of its kind. The Midwest Renewable Energy Fair is being held this year on June 21-23, 2013. Custer is a short drive from Waupaca. There, you will find over 250 exhibits on sustainable living and clean energy products, 200 workshops on solar, wind, green building, local sustainable foods and more.
What we enjoy about the event is the opportunity to talk and learn from both those participating and attending this fair. Being able to ask questions and discuss the ever changing information on the topics of "Green Business is Good Business" has been interesting and helpful. Although I didn't purchase a solar oven, for example, it was fascinating to see such a large one and hear stories of third world countries using these to feed entire communities. There were many take home ideas you can implement also. It is also just a great time to be out in the sunshine, enjoying some local foods and beverages, and taking in some good speakers.
Come and see what the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair is all about! It is all our responsibilities to live in peace and harmony with our land and use its resources wisely.
Waupaca celebrates the start of summer, with their annual Strawberry Fest on Saturday, June 15th this year, with area activities on Sunday, June 16th too. It is such a fun way to spend the weekend!
There is something for everyone, such as a art/craft fair with over 100 vendors from all over the Midwest, food (including lots of strawberry shortcake of course!), music, entertainment and more. There is also a model railroad show at the Waupaca Recreation Center. Nearby, Turners Farm Market, continues the strawberry fun, with lots of activities including, pick-your-own strawberries from their fields, barrel train rides, produce market and more.
Come enjoy an authentic small town summer celebration, and let the Apple Tree Lane Bed & Breakfast help you discover what our friendly and welcoming Waupaca is all about! Summer is on!!
